The challenges of European social movements
Οι προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζουν τα Ευρωπαϊκά κοινωνικά κινήματα

In 2004, as FT sales reached the £100m mark, Harriet Lamb, Executive Director of the Fairtrade Foundation stated that ‘There has been a quiet revolution taking place, and what is so important is ordinary shoppers in this country are behind it.” This idea of a ‘consumer revolution’ has been popular in the media and has rarely been seriously challenged in the acadeamic litereature.
The consumer activists curbing the excesses of payday lenders
Οι κινητοποιημένοι καταναλωτές περιορίζουν τις υπερβολές των «δανειοδοτών»
The benefits of collective action are obvious on the following characteristic example of organized movement in England. The government’s U-turn on payday lending shows what ordinary citizens can achieve when we get organized. News that the government accepts the need to cap the cost of credit marks the culmination of months of organising across the country to shine a spotlight on the unregulated practices of high-cost credit companies.
Consumer Associations in Spain
Nowadays, consumer Associations constitute the best mechanism to ensure the protection of consumer rights. These partnerships mainly focus on disseminating information through magazines and other media resources.
